LONDON, 24th May. Playing at Manchester against Lancashire, Somerset made 74 in the first innings, E. A. M'Donald capturing five wickets for 24 runs. In the second innings Somerset again made a small score, only reaching 73, C. Parkin being responsible with an average of six for 44. Lancashire made 130 runs in the first innings, J. O. White taking five wickets for 67 runs and G. Hunt four for 63. In the second innings they lost one wicket for 20 runs, winning by nine wickets.
In the Surrey-Warwickshire match at the Oval, J. B. Hobbs, playing for Surrey, scored 120, and A. Sandham 181. P. G. H. Fender captured six Warwickshire wickets for 56 runs in the first innings and H. A. Peach seven for 59 in the second innings. Playing for Leicestershire at Cambridge against the University eleven, A. Shipman captured six wickets for 33 runs, and for Cambridge R. V. O. Meyer took six for 41 in the first innings and seven for 24 in the second.
At Oxford, in the University-Worces ■ tershire match, Legoe, playing for the home side, scored 120, and C. H. Taylor made 105 not out. F. Root took six wickets for 83 runs for Worcestershire, and H. O. Hopkins scored 122. Playing at Brighton in the SussexGlamorgan match, M. W. Tate, for Sussex, took seven wickets for 23 rims in the first innings and .seven for 35 in the second.
For Gloucestershire against Essex, at Leyton, B. S- Bloodworth scored 115 and C. Parker took five wickets for 56 runs. For Essex A. C. Russell scored 135 not out.
Yorkshire played Derbyshire at Chesterfield, P. Holmes, for Yorkshire, scoring 125 and G. G. Macaulay taking seven wickets for 13 runs.
