M^tirea having to withdraw, Ihe club has just commenced its jubilee year, and members are naturally hoping to make a good showing in tho annual 20-aside match ■ against Auckland, which is scheduled to commence at 6 p.m. on Saturday next. The Northern club will, however, be able to select a very strong side, having elected 37 new members during the year just ended. The Auckland Chess Club's membership stood at 92 when the forty-first annual meeting was held recently. This is believed to be a New Zealand record, and it is probable that the three-figure mark has been reached by this time.
