V.M.C.A. v. DIAMONDS.

V.M.C.A. met and defeated Diamonds at : Association Park by 3 goals to nil. At no time was there very much doubt as to the result of the match, for though Diamonds played very fair, football in midfield, their forwards' work in front of goal was generally disappointing; the wings were thoroughly energetic, but Dickenson, at centre, had an offday. • Following nice inter-play, with M'Arthur_ and Nichol, Eton, at inside right, registered Young Men's first goal, sending hard past Cutler' between the posts for Diamonds.' The Blacks went away on the left, R. and J. M'Leod reaching a good scoring jAsition, but failed through weak finishing of the attack. Stocks and Bolt, on the other wing, had no better luck. Young Men went away again, and Nichol dropped a shot to goal. Cutler diverted to the other wing, to Ballard. He tried an overhead kick, and Campbell, heading in, brought the score to 2-1. Young Men attacked strongly on the commencement of the second half, and Cutler, was kept fairly busy. Nichol tried him with a ?ast shot from the wing. A few minutes' later Nichol sent in to Eton, who sent in a very hot one, bub Cutler held and sent out to Guest, who booted hard away, Stocks and Boit carrying on past halves and backs; Stocks sent a foot outside the upright. Their left wing attacked next, but Ives had no trouble in turning out a long shot from J. M'Leod. Young Men then gained a couple of corners, but could not improve upon them, and the Blacks for a time speeded up their forward play, though tho front line was not always kept well supplied with leather. Nichol, sent off by M'Arthur, worked.with Eton right through the Diamond defence to the corner flag, there he . centred hard to Atkinson, at centro-iialf. The latter sent over one place to the left, and Dempster lifted hard into the net, just under the crossbar. 3-0. Diamonds made away willingly several times, but seldom passed the backs. Dickenson missed what appeared from the line to be a great chance. Tho game ended without further score. Mr. 0. F. Ward refereed.
