BUTTER MARKET VERY WEAK
DEMAND FOR PROTECTION OF CONSUMEES.
Tne New Zealand producers' Co-opera-tive Marketing Association Ltd. reports, London, 21st May, as follows:— "Butter.—Market very weak New Zealand, 164s to 1665; unsalted, 176s to 178s; Australian, 156s to 160s- Argentine, 154s to 160s ; Irish, 168s to 170s; Dutch, 174s to 178s; Siberian 146s to 150s.
"The chairman of Home and Colonial multiple stores has made an attack upon the system of holding butter off tho market by factories. The Press are following this up by violent newspaper articles, and calling upon the Food Commission to take steps to protect the public, and condemning Empire preference, pointing ont that the butter supply is in the hands of a trust. Position unfortunate and affecting trade. "Cheese.—Market slow. New Zealand, both colours, 92s to 93s- Australian, 86s to 905." <
