WIND AND SEA MODERATING

LIGHTERING TO BE X CARRIED

OUT.

WANGANUI, This Day

The steamer Cyrena, laden with benzine, which grounded yesterday morning on a sand shoal, probably formed by the Hood in the river and the heavy seas of the past few days, shifted during the night, and is now aground about ICO yards north o£ the North Mole. As the vessel was reported to be leaking in. all holds, the tug Terawhiti was engaged, ' and should be here this afternoon.

It is anticipated the work of lightering, which is to be carried out before the. tug's arrival, should proceed with little difficulty, in view of the fact that at an early hour this Morning the sea had moderated appreciably, while the wind showed a corresponding recovery. At. the time of entering the roadstead the Cyrena was drawing seventeen feet. The vessel is in charge of Captain Patterson, and carries a crew of between forty and fifty, of which number about fifteen are Europeans, the remainder being Chinese.

The New Zealand Express Company are the agents for the Cyrena, which has a cargo of motor spirit and kerosene for southern ports, including 8000 cases to be discharged at Wanganui.
