EPSOM DERBY
(DJUtED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.} (Received 23rd May, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, 22nd May. A sudden impetus has been given the Derby by the arrival of the French candidate Ptolemy 11. on a specially-char-tered steamer. From the moment of leaving Franco till he reached. Epsom the h<A-se was guarded by • three detectives, three stable-boys, and a veterinary surgeon. -The steamer also brought a consignment of special horse-feed. How democratic the Derby is, is illustrated by the fact that the King's horse, Runnymede, has long been coupled in the betting with Priory Park, who is owned by a retail butcher, but Runnymede is now in greater demand, though' Dignity, which is at ■ a long price, some writers comment, should not bo despised in view of Dempsey's riding skill.
