OPOTIKI'S EXPERIENCE
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE.

OPOTIKI, This Day
Heavy rain yesterday resulted in the town and surrounding low-lying country Ijeing inundated, the streets being under feet of water. The flooding oE the town commenced at 8.30 last evening; but by 6 o'clock tli is morning most of the flood .-water had disappeared. Considerable damage was done to streets, footpaths, -and-houses and shops iwer'e damaged "by water and silt. Losses of live stock are reported. Some telephones have been interrupted.
The. electrical supply has -not been affected.
Shopkeepers are busily engaged today sweeping the silt from the doors. The height of the Hood waters was eighteen inches less than during the previous, flood,
