DANGER IN A DUSTBIN
Dustbins are provided with the obecfc of preventing disease, yet more often than not the back garden dustbin deals out disease and death.
" Put it in the dustbin!" is a common cry in the kitchen, applied to anything that offends the eye or nose be it bad fish or broken bottles.
Treat your dustbin properly, and it will reward you accordingly. ■ First of all, keep it dry. This is best done_ by setting fire to a newspaper in it directly the bin has been emptied; shut down the lid until the paper has burnt out.
There is a, dustbin in your kitchen that should be the receptacle for all cabbage, potato, and vegetable peelings, tea leaves, and coffee grounds, etc. your kitchen stove.
A good. " banking " of this garbage means economy -in fuel. During the day collect together all the burnable refuse in an old colander, let it utrain, and last thing at night place it over the kitchen range to dry. Next day your fuel is ready, and your dustbin is sweet not damp and smelling. ' You should have a small sack for old bottles, not throw them into the dustbin; a few pence can always be obtained lor these.
Fish heads, remnants of stews, and poultry refuse should be buried deep in the earth. r
