DIVORCE ACTION
BEFORE A JURY.
The Chief Justice (Sir Bobert Stout) and a jury of twelve, of which. Mr. J. T. Hunter is foreman, are engaged at the Supreme Court to-day in hearing a defended divorce action, between William George Chandler, a. plasterer's labourer, of Wellington, and Nellie Ivy Chandler. The petition was on the grounds of adultery, the co-respondent cited being James Leach. The sum' of £300 was claimed by way of damages.
The case for plaintiff was to the effect that the parties were married at Berhampore in 1919. Very shortly after the marriage petitioner was worried by the attentions of co-respondent to his wife, and finally went to see Leach, who undertook not to see Mrs. Chandler again. After that both co-respondent and the wife continually promised not to have anything further to do with each other, but failed to keep the promises. The wife was seen to go_ to Leach's rooms, and riding with him in a car. Petitioner finally lelt home, and then commenced proceedings, having done everything possible, even to invoking police aid, to remedy his household affairs. Mr. P. Jackson appeared for petitioner, Mr. A. B. Sievwright for respondent, aiid Mr. W. E. Leicester for co-respond-ent. ! " '■ .(Proceeding,) . "
