CIVIC LEAGUE
MEETING OF COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Wellington Civic league Council wag held in the Account, ants Chambers, Johnston street on Wednesday evening. Mr. Thomas- Gray presided over a good attendance pf members. The Brooklyn Association notified its decision to jom up with the league, and the appointment of Messrs. J. H. Whit, taker and JJ, Hatch as its delegates to the council. The appointment of Mr. Frank Gold ?i? rg™?s ,i-the l^«ue'» representative ot the Wellington Committee of the' New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition wai confirmed. , . ' The report of tha secretary on the recent civic elections was adopted. Several important matters contained in the report were discussed, and it was decided to refer them to the conference which will shortly be held, consisting I of all members of the league and.repre i sentative citizens interested in municipa matters. ' On the motion of Mr. D. M'Laren, it was resolved to respectfully recommend to the Mayor and council the appoint, inent of a committee of three councillors, practical men, to go into the housing question and bring down a report. Tha secretary was instructed to ob. tain from his Worship the Mayor in formation in regard to the rest-room ti be erected on the triangular reserve at the intersection of Manners and Dixon streets. ' On flic motion of Mr. A. C. Blake it was decided to ask the City Council to state its policy in regard to the uncompleted works on the loan schedule and other works provided for in the eatimates_ and not carried out. In this connection branch associations will br asked to supply information of all workt provided for in their districts in the council's estimates and which have not been carried out. Mr. J. H. Burgoyne-Thpmas consider, ed the time was opportune for the holding Of quarterly meetings o f , n mem . bers of the league, and it was decided to do so, commencing with the general con. ference. -
