DROWNED IN A MINE
THE SCOTSWOOD DISASTER,

(AUSTRAUAX-NEW ZEALAND CABLE- ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 20th May. ihe bodies of seventeen victims of the Scotswood mine disaster have been recovered. The men apparently met death swiftly in the rising water. It is expected tho remainder of the bodies will bo recovered this week.
A largo number of miners was trapped in the Montague pit at Scotswood, near Newcastle, at the end of March owing to an influx of water, due to holing through. Nearly three hundred men were below at the time, but all but thirty-eight escaped.
