NEW ZEALAND CLUB

THE ANNUAL EEPORT.

In its annual report, the New Zealand Club states that the outstanding feature of the year was a luncheon in the Town Hall on 21st January, at which His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, honoured the club by being its guest. The guests who were entertained during the year were: General Bramwell Booth, Salvation Army; Professor J. C. Newlauds, New College, Edinburgh; Mr. Dion Boucicault the well-known actor; Mr. Elsdon Best, authority on Maori lore; His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson; and Sir Frederick Dutton, a vice-president of tho Colonial Institute. Since the close of the year, Mr. Harry Holmes, the originator of this club, and now secretary of the Federal Council of Churches, New York, delivered a speech which was very greatly appreciated by a large gathering of members. At the close of tho club's year the membership was as follows:—Honorary life members, 6; ordinary members, 315; absent 3 ; total, 324. The club sustained a, sad loss in the death of Mr. Birks, who had been president for 1923-24 year, and was always an 'enthusiastic member of the committee.
