CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

A meeting of the local Caledonian Society; was held at Motueka- on Saturday evening, Mr. J. T. Brough presiding. The secretary, Mr. Banner, reported that the Wellington Society would probably be represented at the next sports gathering at Motueka by a pipe band and dancers. The chairman said the pipes that had been used in Motueka had been loaned from Nelson, but as a pipe band was being formed there the pipes had been returned. To make the next Now Year's gathering- more attractive than the last, he suggested .that Wellington dancers and pipers be competed against those of Marlßorongh. Correspondence was received from the Wellington Society congratulating- Motueka on forming a Caledonian Society, and offering to supply any information that may be required. The Scottish Society of Marlborough wrote stating that their members were full of praise for the reception they received from Motueka on last New Year's Day, and are looking forward to the next one.

The following officers -were elected for the ensuing year :—President, Mr. C B. Morris; vice-president, Mr. J. T Brough; secretary, Mr. O. A. Banner; directors, Dr. Bathgate, Messrs. O Thomson, J. Thomson, J. A. M'Glashen, if. B. M'Glashen, D. Goodall, G Ingram, B. V. Warren, J. Benzies, M'Gregor, H. : Hart, G. Budden, P. G Moffatt, and Mr. Alex. Drummond ' Mr. Alex. Drumond and Mr. James Drummond were elected life members It was resolved that the society adopt the Gordan tartan, and that the society be incorporated. A sub-commit-tee was set up to prepare a programme tor next New Year's Day.
