SOME PROMISING PLAYERS

SATURDAY'S RESULTS,

The members of the Wellington Hockey Association have overcome some big difficulties in the administrative side of the game, but there is one problem it seems they are incapable of surmounting, and that is the selection of a fine day for the opening matches of each season. • Tor the past three years it has rained, for the first hockey matches, and on Saturday afternoon the 1925 hockey season in Wellington .was again ushered in with ram Players, however, made the most of the unfavourable conditions, and entered into their games in great spirit.. Followers, of hockey have more senior games to occupy their attention this season, as a result of the division of last years senior grade into two sections— A and B. Karon Park catered for the majority of the senior elevens, and some Keen contests were witnessed. In the senior A grade, Hutt A. last season's winners of the senior championship, defeated Wellington on No. 1 ground at the Park by 3 goals to nil. On No. Z ground. Varsity lost to Wakatu by 5 goals to one. ■ Wakatu fielded a very strong set of forwards, among whom were to be found several old, experienced Payers. Wesley were unsuccessful in their clash with Karori on No. 3 ground, being beaten by the odd goal in three. I lie senior B division games revealed quite a number of new players, some of whom showed distinct promise. Tho ladies, as usual, were well provided for with a full programme of games.
