CONCRETE TREE PROTECTORS
Paris has fonnd a new ure for concreta.. It was decided some time, ago to do away with the iron gratings that protect the roots of the trees in the boulevards and avenues, experience having shown that during the disturbances it is a simple patter for rioters to break the gratings into fragments and use them as missiles. They are now being gradually replaced by thick slabs, too solid to 'be broken with anything lasf'than a sledge-hammer. Whatever effect the change may have on the trees, it '■ will certainly be welcomed by the police."
