"TWO-UP" AND RACING
The monotony of the stonewall on the Gaming Bill was relieved last night by the member for Westland (Mr. J> O'Brien) drawing comparisons between the "very interesting game of 'twoup' " and horse-racing. ] "We have a game of 'twb-up'—a very interesting game,", he said. "I have Elayed it, and I am, willing to give any onourable gentleman an exhibition of how the game is played after the House rises. (Laughter.) The game of 'twoup' isiplayed very much fairer than, horse-racing, with which -this Bill deals." The Hon. A. D. M'Leod : "What sort of a- penny have you got?" Mr. O'Brien did not inform ths Minister whether he had a "double header'" in his, pocket or no,t, but he added that the ring-keeper did not take the' same , percentage from the winnings as what the totahsator did from bets which were made on the racecourse. "You can play for a good long while if you can dodge those who want to 'ring in the nob,' which is the; 'double-headed penny,'" added Mr. O'Brien. -""If gaming is to be permitted I. do not see: why the game of 'two-up' should not be licensed. Ido not see why it should not be the means of the Government making a great deal .of revenue by maintaining 'two-up'schools in the four main 'centres." (Laughter.)
