(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIRIQHT.) (AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received 23rd- October, 2.30 p.m.) PEKIN, 22nd October. Further Feugtfen attacks at Shanliaikwan yeslerday wore repulsed. ]t is reported'that the Fengtien forces have retreated from Shanhaikwan,' but this seenis doubtful. However, the uig guns have, apparently been drawn' back, and tho pressure on the Chihli forces' has been overcome, as the he-id quarters of tho first Chihli army has returned to Shankaikwaii. There are indications that the relations of the Chihli and Japanese authorities in the northern war area are somewhat strained. The cause is obscure. Upon hearing a report that Japan is sending reinforcements to Chmwangtao, Wu Pei-fu is said •to have asked the Japanese commander to telegraph to Tokio to postpone action Iho commander replied that Wu Pei-fu should caution his officers not to show ill-feeling to the Japanese. A Mukden message says that signifipance is attached to a general review of the Japanese Manchuriar. garrison yesterday at Liaoyang, fifty miles south of Mukden. Eye-witnesses report the arrival ,at Tashika, ninety miles south of Mukden, of two Japanese regiments from Port Arthur, with artillery.
