The annual sheep returns show that there is an "increase for the year nf over *«'S22 m", da "P as Allows :-Stuil sWp A 5,405, sheep of a distinctive hreed, but not entered in flock book 6,313,179,----crossbred and others not enumerated 17 - 129,192, a total of 23,775,776, as compared with 23,081,439 last year and 22,222,259 the year before! Since 1908 the hieheat number was 26 - 538,302 in 1918, falling to 25.825.554 the following year. Tho most numerous owners ara those running 201 to 500 sheep, and these number 6008. The "big" men, those owning 5000 to 7500 sheep, number but 370; those ow-niii" over 10,000 number 128. The greatest number of sheep in any one district is 6,27(,967, in Napier-Gisborne area.
