KARORI CLUB.

The Karori Bowling Club had, under the circumstances, the somewhat doubtful honour last Saturday of being the first, club to open its green for play during the coming season. Elaborate arrangements had been made to welcome a record number of visitors, and with a well-nigh perfect green, an enjoyablo afternoon was confidently anticipated Friday night's rain extending into Saturday morning, however, brought its accompanying disappointment. Notwithstanding the weather, the green was declared to bo officially opened by the president, Mr. M. Sedgwick, in a short but happy speech. Tho president of the Wellington Bowling Club, Mr. J. B. Brinsden, who was present, congratulated tho club.on tho fine appearance of the green and, taking into account tho rapid growth of the district, predicted n vory. fino future for the club. Mra. Sedgwick then throw tho jack, amid cheors, and Mr. T. Campbell, one of the club's foundation members, put down tho first bowl.

Tho proceedings wero followed by a cuchro tournament in the pavilion, whore afternoon tea was dispensed, and, in spite of adverse circumstances, a very enjoyable afternoon was spent.
