WELLINGTON DOESN'T COUNT!
Shortly before the supper adjournment in the House of Representatives last night, after the Labour members had been debating for more than an houu and a half, with frequent reiteration of points, the Wellington City Mangahao Endowment Sale Empowering Bill, -one of their number, Mr. W. J.. Jordan (Manukau) objected to the length to; which the debate was developing. "I rise," said Mr. Jordan, "to pro< test against this stonewall-—" The chairman: "Order." "Against this obstruction that is being put up against the Auckland Bills on the Order Paper. Let us discuss a city that counts. If the municipal fathers of this city have had a quarrel amongst themselves, would it noti be a good thing to leave the Bill until the next municipal election, and let thai City Council fight it out with the peopla of -Wellington» Perhaps after the next municipal election there will be a pro-* greasiye Mayor and council, and perhaps in the near future we may have a progressive Parliament, and th'en things will be. altered. ... I suggest to the ' hon. member in charge of the Bill thatj it should be held over until next session, or until such time as it may bcs made a subject at a municipal election.: Let us get on to a measure that con-, cerns a city that counts."
