A DOUBLE DEFEAT
PEKIN FORCES ROUTED. (SYDNEY SH.N CABLEt) (Received 30th September, 11.30 a.m.) PEON, 29th September. A Mukden communique states that' the Jehol troops moved eastward from Chinping with the object of recapturing Chaoyangj arid were met part way by a section of the Mukden secpnd army, which defeated them in a brisk battle. The Jehol forces fled to Chingshan, where they were reinforced. They resumed the offensive later, and were again signally defeated by the other unit of the second army, which" drove the enemy to Laohushang;, in the neighbourhood of Chinping, after an all-ui<*ht 'battle. Murkden army took thirteen mountain guns, a thousand rifles, and a large quantity of supplies, besides killing 400 men, wounding a 1000 and capturing many. The fall of' Chinping is expected hourly. .
