Chang Tso-iiin's forces are advancing steadily on Jehol (or Cheng-te), and the .troops from Pekin are falling back, ancl are not offering serious resistance. Chang is .preparing defence lines in the event of reverses, but holds every mountain pass .on .the approaches to the Shanhaikwan front, while the lowlands are forming bases for continual air raids. •
