ARCTIC TRAGEDY

FOUR MEN LOST

SHIP DRIFTS AWAY IN THE ICE,

(UNITED I>ttESß ASSOCIATION.—COPIMOHT.) (SXDHEY SON OABIB.) (Received 27th October, 10 a.m.) NOME (Alaska), 26th Oct. The Arctio has claimed four more victims. The schooner Silver Wave, caught in ,the ice, has drifted away into tho davit in a hopeless region, whee she will never more be heard of. The Silver Wave is the fourth vessel lost beyond Behring this year. She was caught in the same field which enveloped the Kiudersley, but after that ship disappeared. The Silver Wave had a dozen passengers, who were landed safely by Captain "Hegness and the engineer. These two camped ashore all night, but slushy ice next day prevented their only smail boat going out to bring ashore the four of the crew still on ooard. Captain Hegness waited for better weather, which never came, and the wind carried the ship and the icefield out to sea. When the ship was last seen signals of distress were still flying. Captain Hegness kept up a hopeless search for a fortnight.
