An iiißight into the local prices for money is afforded by the "Mercantile Gazette" to-day,, when it quotes advances made- under the headings of company charges and instruments registered, of rates of interest for debentures, varying from 7 per cent.. 7£ per cent., and up to 12_ per cent. Advances secured on live stock'and chattels are given at 5 per cent., si per cent., 6 per cent., 6a per cent., 7 per cent., 7^ par cent., 9 per cent., up to 10 per cent?; loans-secured on plant and machinery and stocks are 5 per cent., d! 2 per cent., 8 per cent.; on oil launches and .accessories, 6i per cent, to 10 per cent.; on motor-cars, from 5£ per cent, to 10 per cent.; on household furniture, 7-J,- per cent, to 10 per cent.; on sowing, machines, 7 per cent.; on wool, 5£ per cent.; on ice croam plant, 5 per cent. There is one jnst'ance of a farmer securing a loan of £24 free of interest, secured on cows'.
