MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. E. Page, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's' Court to-day. Two first-offending inebriates were each fined 10s, and another was'fined ss. Conn Conway, with one previous conviction for drunkenness, was fined 10s. A remand to 17th September was granted in the case of John Fordyce Blackhall, who made his fifth appearance for drunkenness.
An insurance agent, Ernest Alfred Osmond, 50 years of age, who appeared to answer four charges of false pretences involving £11, was remanded for sentence to 12th September. Chief-De-tective Kemp said that accused's practice in connection with the charges had been to obtain a blank cheque and fill it in. According to Osmond's counsel, Mr.-X. R. Scott, drink was at the root of the trouble. . ...
A labourer, 30 years of age, Basil John Joseph Miller; alias John Joseph Miller, was remanded to 16th September for sentence on eight charges of the theft, of coats from St. Patrick's College between 26th May and Bth August!., The police stated that two. coats had. been recovered, and inquiries were being made regarding the others.
. The youth, Clifford Edward Morris Odlin, who is charged with wounding Leila Reichel at Wellington on Bth August with intent) to do grievous bodily harm,- "was remanded to 17th September. Accused was represented by Mr. J. F. Skedden.
