MOVEMENT FOB DOMINION

ASSOCIATION.

A conference of Justices of the Peace from various parts of the Dominion will be held in Wellington on the 30th inst., mainly for the- purpose of forming a Dominion Justices' Association.' Among the more important remits which will como up for consideration from district justices' associations will.be 'the following:

That this conference take steps to form • organisation to, bekmywn as "The New Zealand Justices' Association," linking up all branches throughout the Dominion, and providing for the appointment of/ a Dominion executive and a standing sub-committee in Wellington, authorised to conduct the business of the association between executive meetings. (Canterbury.) Seeing—the number of justices in the Dominion is estimated at nearly 6000, that this conference strongly recommends that all-future appointments to the Commission of the Peace be restricted to those persons who are proved loyal subjects, to* the Empire and have rendered valued public service. (Canterbury.) That the Justice Department be requested to supply all justices with a, medallion, also a certificate giving details of .their appointment. (Canterbury:) This conference strongly recommends that the; Justice Department confer with the justices' associations'in the various centres, before finally making appointments to the Commission of the Peace. (Canterbury.) '■"'-" With a view of easing the work of the Stipendiary Magistrate hv each centre, and of utilising the services of a large number of Justices of the Peace only too willing to act, this conference is of the opinion that certain specified days should be Set apart in each city on which justices would preside at their respective S.M. Courts. (Auckland ) Provision by the Government of a central office in the towns for the convenience of justices and the general public. (Wellington.) Government revision of the list of names, addresses, and dates of appointment of justices, and .a copy of such revised list be sent each justices' association. (Wellington.) That representation be made to the Government to enter into reciprocal arrangements with the-Australian Commonwealth so, that nny justice holdinna commission in Australia shall, on residing in New Zealand, become a Dominion justice, and vice versa- where a New Zealand justice becomes a resident of the Commonwealth.
