-A meeting iof the. Executive Committee of the Wellington Girls' College Parents' Association was held at "the college : last ...evening; Mr.- G. > Mitchell' presided, and most of the members of the committee were, present ' '. . Mre^G v L. Stewart,.president,'of. the Ladies' Auxiliary,' made a report- regarding the>* financial result of -the bazaar and concert recently/held at' the Sydney .Street Schoolroom. After.'paying: alt'expenses; there will be available for the benefit of the' school the'sum or 7 almost £200. . A hearty, vote of thVriks was* passed to Mrs. •G. L. Stewart and the. Ladies'r/Au^iliary;-, also to "Miss M'Leariand the- college staff, for "the very valuable : work they had: accomplished. ■ ',: ■■ ■. -. .".- ■■'•■ )■'.■-■ It was stated that the' Department' had granted a subsidy of JBl.lor J& up to £100 for remodelling the.-,old- dwelling on the school grounds arid convert--, ing. if infjp -a- sports, pavilion. ! Work has already commenced by day. labour under .the supervision of Mr. ~R}., W. Hontalk, architect. . It is expected that? the work. will be'almost completed during, the present holidays... It was reported that.the function in connection with the laying of the foundation stone of the n/Vcollege by His Excellency • Lord. ■ Jellicoe: would take take place on Tuesday, 30th September next. 'It.-was agreed"to suggest to 'the Minister of Education that the title of Wellington Girls' College should be retained . for the new building,: and if it were necessary to provide something to distinguish it from the present institu^ tion, that the new. building should be known as the' Girls'; College Central, and the present school as the >Girls'" Colleire. Some discussion: took place witli, regard to the pupils who gain their proficiencies •.■while at the" College. It was stated that in some instances girls had gained, their proficiency certificate .in the first term, and had not received the 'benefit thereof until the third term. The- meeting decided, to .recommend to the Minister of Education that the free place should be' available to the pupil in the term, immediately following the one ■in which' the proficiency. examination was passed, t .; • . Preparations are being made to give a large physical drill and gymnastic display at the ; Grand Opera House, and also to hold a function for the benefit of the Colle~e Hostel" ■ ' . .
