ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COUNCIL
"The council of the. New .Zealand 'Society of Accountants, in its report'which will be presented at the, annual meeting, to be held this evening; states that the membership ■' now stands at 1760,' a decrease ■of 18 for the -year. - v ■ . The-, thirteenth annual examination covering the commercial bookkeepers' and professional courses," conducted by the University of New Zealand on behalf of-, the society s took place in/November last,. ■1123 candidates sitting for the -full examination _or to secure pr complete section .passes: The numbers: of / those who sat and passed in the different-, subjects, respectively, aro .as under:—Booldteeping and accounts (stage 1); 571 candidates sat, 167. .passed; bookkeeping. and accounts (stage 11.),,379-and 50; auditing, 325 and 163; economics, 598 and 221-; rights' and duties of: trustee's, 328, and ,166; bankruptcy law, 366 and. 193 j.company law, 428 and 199; mercantile law [stage I.), 577 and 274; mercantile law ■ (stage -II.)., 314 'and" 178." ■, Fifty-one candidates completed the full course at this examination.; For the accountants' pre-liminary-examination 427 candidates presented themselves, and of these 235 succeeded in either coiflpleting the examination or gaining ai sectional pass. For the commercial bookkeepers' examination 661 candidates presented -themselves; and of these 187 succeeded in-gaining a complete pass, thereby becoming entitled to registration as commercial bookkeepers/ "A supplementary examination" was held during/March, at which 153 candidates presented themselves/to, complete th'efr .examinations." Of these,3B were,successful, thus bringing .the total of 'successful candidates for the year.up to 89. r The nsiial Examination, for /certificate of. pro-, ficiericy in bookkeeping accounts, business; 'organisation, and', methods, \yas! held. in .November, last, in'conjunction. with the professional examination / conducted by the.University of New Zealand,.2s4 candidates ; presenting themselves ■'at this ex-, .amjnation. Of those 41 passed,/thajpercentage of.passes-being 16.14/ per cerilv ■During the year'intimation was received :that; the Minister, of Internal Affairs intended, issuing',,regulations governing the audit of land" agents' trust accounts, •Mcl/the'council-was requested to supply suggestions' in .connection therewith. These. suggestion -werfe/duly: forwarded. .<ahd.it is hoped that the regulations ■will shortly.be issued.' _,<■ ..}/> ..■'■ ~. :"....? .
