PAREMATA BOATING CLUB

After numerous delays on account of unsuitable weather, the finals for the Hansford Cup and Mopihouse Cup were sailed during the week-end. Five boats started in the Hansford Cnp race • Mr Rouse's Desert Gold (scr), Mr. Sterling's Q.ueeme (4min), Mr. H. Francis's Sea in y- Mr- Cher's Mascot 19mm), Mr. Smith's Arahuri (40min). Only a light breeze prevailed, which died to a calm as- the boats were within Halt a mile of the winning post. Queenie, which had gained the lead and looked a certain winner, got into calm water and the incoming i,ide carried her back With no prospect of a breeze, her skipper gave up the race. Sea Lady had replaced Mascot, while Desert Gold, which had been well sailed by her new owner, took up first place and crossed the line wel! ahead of Sea Lady. Mascot was third, and Arahuri fourth. Prior to the calm it was the best race yet held by the club. Mr. W. Duncan's special prize was secured by Desert Gold Sea Lady won the cup presented by Mr. G. ilansford. In the tie for the Moorhouse Cup between Mr. Waddel's Nancy and Mr. Sterling's Qneenie. the boats got away well together. When the upper harbour was reached, Queenie passed her rival, and maintained the" lead throughout, crossing the lino 18^ minutes ahead of xvancy. After deducting the handicap, Qneenie was declared tire winner with ten minutes to spare.
