There were seven hundred passengers, aboard the Metagama when she collided with the Clara Oasus. Both vessels were seriously damaged. The Metagama has, arrived in dock, and the Clara Casus was beached. The Metagama's passengers tell a, story of wonderful seamanship. Several cabins were stove in, but fortunately, the occupants wore at breakfast. Tho passengers rushed on deck as the ship was sent reeling by a heavy blow on the starboard side. The captain immediately flooded the port ballast tanks, thus listing the ship over so as to raise the hole in the starboard sids out of the water.
The passengers behaved splendidly, and a mess boy played the bagpipes as the big ship heeled over at a tremendous angle. The captain's prompt action saved the ship from foundering.
