ENTERTAINED AT STRATFORD.

STRATFORD, This Day. The Hon. J. G. Coates was entertained at a b^nquet last night. There wero over one hundred guests present. The Minister was warmly welcomed. In the course of bis remarks. Mr. Coates stated that the Government intends to ky a submarine cable across Cook Strait for telephonic communication between the islands.' The Minister said the idea was that every person in the Dominion should have "facility for telephonic communication with any other person in the Dominion. Referring to the Dominion's Post and Telegraph service, Mr. Coates said that after allowing £450,000 for wireless and other improvements, the year's surplus of revenue over expenditure would be the second highest they had had. totalling £580,000 in round figures
