SOLDIER FARMERS
MATTER OF REVALUATION1,
tM mSaitAPH.— MISI ISKchtos.)
THAMES, SOth June; A deputation of Hikuai goldier settlers waited on Mr. T, W, Rhodes, M P - ia regard to the position on their farms. Iliey asked him to bring the matter of revaluation before Cabinet Tho local board had valued the 'sections five months ago, but they had heard nothing since. If the Dominion board intended visiting Hikuai the settlers would like it to come while the conditions are at their worst. Bad roads made it difficult nnd costly, to get about. Freichts to Auckland were so high that it did not pay to send cattle, sheep, nnd pigs. The lands are subject to heavy flooding when tho Tairua River rises, some places lately being nine feet under water leaving heavy silt and making regrassine necessary. Mr. Rhodes promised to do all he oould to facilitate and improve matters. These men, who are all hard workers, wore abovo the average farmer, and worked hard and nobly stuck to their posts to secure a living.
