WELLINGTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
The first- meeting of the newly-elected committee of tlie Wellington Horticultural Society was held in No. 2 Committee Room, Town Hall, on AVednesday. Mr.- J. B. Harcourt- presided. There was a, large attendance, of • members and delegates. It" was decided to carry out the rose-pruning at the society rosery in the Zoo about, the, middle of July, a subcommittee of ten members being set up to arrange for a lecture and demonstration on the ground. It was resolved to approach the City Council for members of the society on presentation of ticket to have free admission to the rosery on that day. The five-guinea challenge trophy for chrysanthemums at Ihe autumn show was on ■view, bavin" arrived from Auckland, where it hail been stored since 1914. H -was decided to call a meeting of delegates from the afliliated societies to confer re show dates. The Hutt Horticultural Society is also In bo iuvitfd to"be represented, so as lo save any clashing of show dates. A .schedule committee was set up to allocate special prizes, etc. A shortage of vases being very apparent, at the recent shows, it was decided to import £20 worth immediately, the name of the society to be stamped on the vases. A committee was .set ijp to canvass for.advertisements on. the schedule, and have the schedule . printed, immediately. It was decided to have the rose "lecture, that was delivered at the annual meeting, printed and circulated among the members.
The vexed question of what is a novice was decided as follows, on the motion of Mr. J. Sinclair: "That any person winning a prize for the first time1 be allowed to enter in the novice classes for that season in the Wellington and affdialed societies' shows."
