APPRENTICESHIP LAW
TO BE EXPLAINED TO-NIGHT. A meeting is to be held in the Council Chamber to-night, at which the Secretary of Labour (Mr. F. W. Rowley) will explain the working of the Apprentices Act, especially the method of setting iip the committees to administer the scheme. The meeting is open to all, especially employers and employees.. In addressing the conference of employers and employees to consider the ap- | prenticeshiji scheme last year, the Mini ist.er of Labour (the Hon.' G. J. Anderson) remarked that every endeavour should bo made to ensure that on leaving the primary schools boys would enter occupations calculated to'encourage their mental and physical development. Such a training would not only avoid the deadening effect of monotonous unskilled work upon the intelligence of the growing- boys, but would enable the boys to adapt themselves to the changing conditions of industry, as they arise from time to time.
