NEWTOWN
"The financial position (from, a bowling view), while satisfactory, calls for careful consideration as to ways and means for improvement,'' states' the thirty-first annual report of the Newtown Bowling Club. Regret is expressed at the deaths of two esteemed members, Messrs. J. J. Ashwood and H. Hanson. Twenty-one members resigned during the year, and twenty-seven new ones were elected. The membership nu-w stands at 101. On the of the Pennants Competition the club was successful in winning the Senior Pennant. The junior team, was not quite so successful, being runners-up after a well-contested game. The friendly inter-club games were a marked success, and it is hoped that this ciaes of, game will even be more encouraged.
The club trophies have been somewhat a failure, winners only finding time to play prize-winning' games. Very few entered these competitions, and not half the games allotted to them were played U is hoped that the incoming directors will in future make an alteration in the way these games and trophies shall be allotted. The club extends thanks to Mrs Underwood for her kindness in presenting the members with the very ' handsome honours board and cup casket The club is_ indebted to the Underwood family for the many kindnesses extended at all times, and also the proud position ot having been associated with the club tor three generations. Mr. H. Sexton, an old veteran, has Presented the club with Buckle Badges, to be known as the Sexton Diamond Buckles, Ins view being to encourage the drawing game. The green has again been tested, and it has been .levelled and top-dressed to the satisfaction of the green committee. During the year the directors sanctioned the construction of a croquet lawn adjoimng the bowling green.
