(Received 18th vJune, 2 p.m.) CAPETOWN, 17th June, lhere was intense interest in the elections to-day. Early returns show that seven of the South African Party, three Labour, and four Nationalists uVe-n elected- Nationalists, gained t> : Fre*ona Central seat, where Mr. liooth, Chairman of Committees, wasdefeated. Labour gained the Germiston seat by a narrow majority. (Received 18th June, 2.30 p.m.) '• CAPETOWN, 17th June. General Smuts was defeated for Pre- \°™ West- , Mr. H3y, Labour, polled 1407 ivotes and General Smuts 1022. Another notable defeat was that of Sir Abe Bailey for Krugersdorp.
