NEW GOVERNOR-GENERAL
NO APPOINTMENT YET.
From time to time since the departure of Lord Jellicoe has been announced it has been suggested that the new Gov-ernor-General of the Dominion will be Admiral Lord Wester Wemyss. The recommendation of the Government on the matter has been submitted to the Imperial authorities, but the Prime Minister stated this afternoon that he was not yet in a position to announce who the successor to Lord Jellicoe would be. "I know Admiral Wemyss," remarked Mr. Massey, "and he is a very fine man." "Are we likely to have another naval officer—an Admiral—as Governor-Gen-eral ?" inquired the pressman. "That I cannot say," replied Mr. Massey. "Although I should- like to have one."
Mr. Massey's attention was drawn to a statement in "The Scotsman," suggesting that Lord Wemyss would be the new Governor-General, "but the Prime Minister replied that that statement was written six weeks ago, and many things had happened since then. - He could not say anything definite about the subjectbeyond the fact that the Government had not been advised y.et of any appointment having been made.
