EMPRESS THEATRE.

There is now showing at the Empress Theatre a superb drama in historical settings (and magnificent they are, too). " The lighting Blade," in which Richard Barthelmess has tho leading role opposite Miss Dorothy. M'Kail. Briefly, a FJemish soldier of fortune wins the enmity of the friends of a conquered adversary. He is captured and manr.cied, and thence follow daring deeds which prove the young American actor to be an athlete of rare prowess. There is; all the splendour and chivalry of the 1/th century in this well-staged screen l'liiy, and among tlie scenes is a replica of the banquet hall at St. Ayereham Castle, which was located near Oxford, in the big banquet to celebrate the betrothal of St. Avorsham and Thomasino, the services of fivehundred "extras" were availed of, and the scene is one of glittering realism. The acting of the allstar cast is faultless, and the mountings are m exquisite taste, while the love interest is fragrant and romantic. Another film of outstanding interest is one showing the wonders of radio—the methods and exploits of wave lengths are explained clearly, and' experts from broadcasting stations add further inierest, with their lucid descriptions. It is an educational film of real worth the opening of the Empire Exhibition is another item of world-wide interest, and was watched with'the keenest enthusiasm by last night's audiense. The Empress Orchestra under Mr. .M. Dixon ndds further to tho enjoyment of patrons.
