PARAMOUNT THEATRE.

"Shadows of Paris," a powerful drama of. the underworld of Paris,- introduced at the Paramount Theatre last night, is a, striking story of.-a female l)r. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Pola Negri is in her, element in her characterisation of "the' Blackbird," the fiery Apache queen, who, believing her pandit lover to have been killed in the war, marries the Prcfet of Police. Her subsequent meeting with her former ardent lover in their old haunt at the Cafe Boule coincides with a police-raid upon that refuge, as a. result of which her husband learns the mystery of hor earlier life. An exciting climax is reached when Fernand,..the brigand leader, burgles the Prefet's house. In the iierce struggle which1, ensues Fernand shows that his chief love is for riches, and a satisfying conclusion is reached and all ;complieations are straightened out. The cast includes such excellent players as Adolphe Me'iijou, Charles de Roche, and Huntley Gordon. The story is adapted from the sensational French play. "Mbn Honune." which has had a lengthy run on the legitimate stage. The princi]:*' comedy subject, "Arabia's Last Alarm " is one of the funniest of its kind that lias been seen at the Paramount for some time. The programme is completed with an excellent budget of topical news, ami the Paramount Orchestra, directed by Mi: 11.
