MARINE DISPLAY AT WEMBLEY.
Practically every fitting and every machine contained in a great transatlantic passenger liner,, or the latest type of battle-cruiser, are shown in the ialace of Engineering at Wembley. Engines form the most attractive display, i here are a number of examples of Diesel and semi-Diesel prime movers, together with steam turbines from the works of the foremost makers. One interesting stand comprises the bridge and upper works of a liner, whereon all the mechanism for controlling the propelling steering, lifting, and ventilating machinery of a vessel are open to examination, i'umps for feeding the boilers and. for keeping the ship dry are many and of varied types, and modern firing methods reveal the detail of the new oil-burnine process as well as that of such machinery as mechanical, stokers, automatic coal-weighers, coal conveyors, ash-hand-lers, etc. Safety at sea and life-saving are illustrated by wireless equipment and by a full-size lifeboat. Windlasses and capstans, both electrically ' and steamdriven, are shown on several stands. Inere are many sizes of generators for supplying electricity for power and lighting purposes, whilst every fiting, and part from steel plates to enuges, and from ropes, 'in wire and fibre, to propellers are presented in great variety. There are a number of scale models of battleships and other craft. Naval shipbuilding activities are demonstrated by examples of. the heaviest class of armour plate—a foot or more in thickness—together with gunsj controls, ranse-fmders, and shells. Model submarines are also shown; salvage work is made clear to all, and diving operations are carried out.'
