ANNUAL MEETINGS OF HOUSEHOLDERS
The meetings of householders ! for tho-purpose of electing school com* mittees .for'"the ensuing year were held' in the Wellington Education district last evening. Brief reports of'Hhe'. various j meetings are appended:— , '' j ■-,, ' -. .MOUNT COOK. . There was a fair attendance at the Mount Cook school meeting. Mr. W. ,E. Fuller, presided. The annual report stated that there had been several changes on the school staff during: the year, in factj too many to be appreciated. The number of scholars on 31st March was 837. The committee had consistently endeavoured to get the new school under way. Some needed ground j had. been " acquired, and it was hoped that by the.tinie the, date of* the jubilee was reached the new school would be on the way. The first school was built in 1875 in Buckle, street. In.answer to a question, a letter was ;read from the Minister for Education. This.stated that the Public Works ■Department was commencing immediately ito .remove the buildings on the site fox, I the new school/Building would then be !. commenced. The. ground had cost the Government £20,000, and the buildings. j were" to cost about £31,000. The Government had yet, however, to announce what amount would be granted. The,financial statement showed a credit balance of £15 16s 8d on the general account, and £25 2s lid on the recreation .account. ■ ■■■-.■■ .
