On his retirement last night from the chairmanship of- the Brooklyn School Committee, a position he Has occupied ior eleven years, Mr. A. J. WhitV was presented by the outgoing committee ■with, a silver tea service. Nathan, who is,shortly leaving for England on a business and holiday trip, was yesterday afternoon given the good wishes of the Wellington Automobile Club, of which he is president, and was nominated as one of. the club's representatives to attend a' dinner to., be: given- by the Royal Automobile Club, London, under the ■ presidency of the Duke of ConnaugUt,. on 27th June, to representatives of overseas affiliated automobile clubs.- ■'.....-•."■■ : .Another member of the band of pioneers who took-an active part in the settlement of Te Awamutu district immediately following the Maori War has passed away ; in: the! person of Mr Willian Thomson, of luhikihv Mr. Thomson, who was born, in ; London in 1836! was a son of the late, Dr- John Thorn- j son, R.N., and grandson of Dr. John I T r h? ml onV l}- N -> ■ who ■-"surgeon on H.M.S.
