MOTOR CYCLISTS DEATH
CORONER'S COMMENTS.
Severe comment on the state of portion1 of the Hutt road was made by the Coroner (Mr. E. Page, S.M.), to-day, in his finding at the inquest on William Trembath, a'single man, 31 years of age, whose death occurred at the Wellington Hospital on Sunday evening as a result of injuries received while riding a motor-cycle.,-The evidence of Dr. . M'Kay showed that deceased was-admitted to the Hospital at 5.40 p.m. on Sunday with a fractured skull. In the opinion of witness death was due to ,tho injuries deceased had suffered to his head. William Daniel said in company with deceased, he rode to the Upper Hutt on Sunday afternoon. . About a mile north of Taita on the return trip, witness said deceased overtook a motor-car and shortly after regaining his right side of the road,1 'the- front wheel of deceased's motor-cycle struck a hole in the ground, which caused the machine ta capsize. Witness found that deceased was serious-" ly injured, and had him "removed to tho Hospital. . In reply to^the Coroner, witness said the condition' of the road where the ac-< cident occurred was "terrible." and'lie: considered it responsible for Trembath's death. > - ' Constable Frost,-who removed Tivmbath to the Hospital, said he had examined the road where' the1 accident took place, and considered H the worst piena of road in that district, as it .was full of "potholes." ' . - .'' The Coroner fojind that deceased* met his death through'accidentally falling off bis motor-cyclo Ho added that the evidence indicated that the road was in very bad order at the spot where the accident occurred, and said for a .main. highway near the Capital City the road should be in a better condition. He suggested that a' permanent surface should be constructed there.
