BOWLING
WHOLESALERS v. RETAILERS.
The first bowling contest between the | wholesale and retail trade of the city, ■which-Mvill probably become an annual fixture, was held at the' Seatouu green yesterday afternoon, and", as. a * result, the conditions of trading were reversed in that the1' retailers dealt- with the " pretensions of the wholesalers to being bowlers in a somewhat wholesale manner, judging by the final scores, which were: Retailers. 116, Wholesalers 91. The teams and scores were as follow :— " Retailers: Bo'ltou (skip), Tonka, Jansen, Charman, 31; Wholesalers: Keith (skip), Rallingshaw. Miller, Harvey, 11. lle- [ tailers: Wyatt (skip); C. Wyatt, M'Leod, | Haswell, ,17;, Wholesalers: Meadowcraft (skip), Paul, Wood, Fiebig, 28, -Retailers: Dillon (skip), Davis, Plant. Mill T ncr, 25; Wholesalers :> Townsend (skip), Thornley, Townshend, Moore. 22. Retailers: Wylie (skip), M'llra'ith, Red-* , mond, Stott, 38; Wholesalers: Gordon (skip), Myers, Andrews, Press, 6. Retailers: Phillips (skip), Duncan, Watkins. Howe, 15 ; Wholesalers: Thompson (skip), Reed, Mulford, Reid, 24." ( ''Whilu the wholesalers ' wero being entertained at afternoon tea by the. retailers, opportunity was taken by Mr. R. Jansen to welcome their guests" and to express the hope that this might bs tho first of many such functions between ■the.two branches of trade. Good wishes'' for a pleasant holiday were extended to Mr. W. A. Mowbray, who ,is. leaving shortly for a world tour. .v ■ Mr. F. Meadbwcroft, on behalf of the wholesalers, suitably replied, while Mr. Mowbray, who is regarded as tho father' of the wholesalers of the city, acknowledged the' compliment paid to himself. A "most pleasant afternoon" was brought, to a close'by a hearty. ackno\\>< ledgment of the generosity of the direev tors of the Seatoun 'greon in giving up the whole of tha rinks for the afternoon.
