WYRALLAH TRAGEDY

FATAL HESITATION

SHIP SANK LIKE A STONE.

MELBOURNE, 9th April.

The Wyrallah, which was sunk in collision off Port Phillip Heads, was a steamer of 302. tons, and ran between Melbourne and the Gippsland Lakes. The Dilkera, of 2667 tons, was bound to Fremantle from Newcastle. The vessels collided when in the>Rip.- When they collided the men on the Dilkera shouted to the crew of the Wyrallah to jump, and five of-.the crew and one passenger obeyed, and- were saved. Six others hesitated for a moment and were lost, as the veEsel went down like a stone. The names of those drowned are: M. Bowery, H. Johnson, J. M'Laren, J. G. Weighton, A. Montgomery (all of Melbourne), and G. R. Ward (of Coburg). Montgomery was a passenger. :
