' Mr. Sydney Wobb, President of the Board of Trade, in reply to questions in the House of Commons, stated*, that /the Government had'decided not to introduce legislation for the'extension of the duration df the provisions of part two of the Safeguarding of Industries Act, providing for duties to meet the. cases of depreciated currencies. The provisions would accordingly lapse on 10th ■ August.. The Government, had carefully .considered the -report of a committee recommending duties, of 33 1-3 per cent, on lace, embroidery, and silk, but it did not.propose to ask Parliament to impose the duties:
