PARAMOUNT THEATRE.

Gerald 0 Duffy's fine story, "The Spider and the Eose," is finally screening to-day at the Paramount Theatre W^ton Glass as Don Marcello, the t° U S f T Goveroor (played by Joseph J Cowling), leads the cast. A romantic drama of the tropics, "South bea J.ove, featuring Shirley Mason, is the supporting attraction. The Paramount Orchestra, in exceptionally fine* musical items, adds to the evening's entertainment. • ■««- "THE SILENT : COMMAND." The spectacular melodrama, "The Silent Command," gives more "thrills" to the reel ithan it ever received before. This William Fox screen production lives up completely to the highly flattering reputation which preceded it. The production commences at the Paramount and Britannia Theatres to-mor-row. Directed by J. Gordon Edwards, the man who made "The Queen of bheba ' has kept faith with each detail of. the picture. Cast, lighting, sets, and sensational effects are all of gr.eat excellence. One of the chief merits of the picture is the unbroken series of "thrills" and tense situations that vitalise the action. Its story is powerful., human, and convincing, and through it' runs a fine streak of patriotism and de- | yotion to duty. The author has fol- | lowed the fortunes of a young naval officer in a conflict with a band of international spies and rounded out his plot with a love romance of real beauty. He has also provided opportunity for the most remarkable steamship wreck ever shown on the screen.' Edmund Lowe, as Captain Richard Decatur, is handsome and manly,'and Alma Tell, as his wife, is beautiful to look upon, and plays her emotional scenes -like a true artist. Martha Mansfield, Bela Lugosi, Gordon M'Jwhvard, Byron Doughs,' and Betty' Jewel give fine characterisations of important roles.
