STATE MATCH MONOPOLY
ABOLISHED BY GOVERNMENT.
(REUI£Ii'S TELEGKAIf.)
PARIS, 16th March.
The Senate rapidly adopted Articles 4 to 33 of the Finance Bill. There was a long discussion on Article 34, providing for the abolition of the State match monopoly.
The Minister of Finance explained that the monopoly produced 75 million francs. The new system was estimated to produce 91 millions. It cost more to manufacture State matches than to import them. The abolition was adopted by 163 votes to 119, and the division was accepted as a vote of confidence in the Government.
