STACKING CASES OIL
MEN SEEK AND SECURE INCREASED PAY.

, NAPIER, 17th March, me men engaged by the Vacuum Oil Lompany and the British Imperial Oil Company to stack cases of oil from the i^ity of Eastbourne and the Physa in stores, ceased work at noon to-day and refused to continue till paid at the same rate as the watersiders (2s 6d an hour) instead of Is ll|d, the award rate for store workers.
Both companies referred the matler to their offices in Wellington, and the Imperial Oil Company advised their agents to accede to the men's request in order not to delny the Phvsa further, and the men resumed at 3.45 I he Vacuum Company's agents nave not yet received definite instructions. I.ut it Js-anticipated that work will be resumed on their vessel in the morning.
The movement to give Red Indians full privileges as united States citizens is gaining headway in' America.
