" SAMOAN (DROWN ESTATES. ' By direction of the Hon. the Minister of External Affairs, tho fo|lowing ex-German properties in the. Now Zealand Mandated Territory of Western Samoa are now offered for Lease:— ' These properties comprise those plantations which havo been carried on as going concerns by the Samoa Crown Estates Department. Full particulars of buildings, plant, machinery, and all fixed and movable assets now on-the properties are available from the Secretary of External-Affairs;- and ILLUSTRATED BOOKLETS, giving typical photographs,, taken from the .'Various, estates, together with locality-map, are available through the same channel, and at the offices of the Chambers of Commerce, and Industries and Commerce Departments at Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin. TERMS OF LEASE.—For forty years, with provision for revaluation after first twenty years, and' includes lease of land, buildings, fixed plant and machinery, fences, water-supply, and all other permanently fixed assets. Other assets, such as stock, cattle,' horses, stores',. to -be purchased at valuation to be decided by assessors to be appointed one by each party «to agreement. Tenders for— (a.) All'plantations, (b.) Separate plantations, (c.) Aggregate of several plantations, will-be accepted up to 31st May, ■ 1924, at the office of the Secretary ..for External Affairs, Wellington. ■ • ' ' The highest or any tender not necessarily accepted. Consideration will bo given to any application for the granting of an option, pending the formation of a company to take over any or all of the larger plantations, or for any reason approved of by the Minister. Every facility for inspection will be afforded, and all interested persons are cordially invited to visit Samoa and inspect. LOT I.—Property known as MulifanUa Plantation. About 4209 acres, coconuts in bearing; about 4200 acres virgin. This plantation is divided into seven stations of. an approximate area of 700 acres, each of which is capable of being run as a separate unit, being complete with overseers'or managers' houses, coolies' quarters, sheds, hot-air driers, etc. Production of copra for year April, 1922, to March, 1923: 1612 tons. LOT 2.—Properties known-as Magia Group, including Magia. Tuvao, and Toftja. Magia Plantation, about 260 acres, cocoa in bearing; about 120 acres, coconuts in bearing; about 21 acres, bananas; about 1562 acres, bush, etc. Buildings: Manager's, overseers' houses, sun-drier, fermenting-house, store, and coolie-quarters. Tofua Plantation, about 80 acres, cocoa in bearing, interplanted with coconuts; about 20 acres, bush, etc. Manager's house, coolie-house, etc. ' " Tuvao Leasehold, about 160 acres, cocoa, in bearing; about 21 acres, coconuts in bearing; about 20 acres, coconuts, young, interplanted with cocoa; about 219 acres, virgin; manager's house, small sun-drier, Gordon drier with machinery and accessories, coolie-quarters, opening-sheds, fermenting-shed, etc. Production for group year April, 1922, to March, 1923: 34 tons copra, 58 .tons cocoa. LOT 3.—Property known as Pineapple Estate. About 38 acres, cocoa; about 150 acres, cocoa and coconuts abandoned; about 212 acres, virgin. This property adjoins the Magia Group, and was operated as a. pineapple-canning estate by the former owner. In the year 1915 there were 150 acres planted in pines. During that year half a million 21b tins of pines . were produced. The crop was harvested and tinned in thirty days. This output, was handled with the machinery which is at present available and in good order, with the exception of two driving-engines and overhead bolting. • etc. A very fine factory and manager's houso are in good repair, and the whole estate is capable of being developed into a good canning plant at very short notice and comparatively small exper.se. Pineapples grow abundantly in almost any. part of Samoa, and-the quality easily surpasses that of most other countries. LOT 4.—Property known as Vaitele Plantation. The plantation consists of three stations each of an approximate area of 500 acres, planted ill coconuts. Uncultivated area: 1036 acres. ■Production for year April, 1922, to March, 1923: 591 tons copra. LOT s.—Property known as Vailele Plantation. This plantation consists of three stations of an . approximate area of 600 acres each of coconuts.
